LET ME ASK YOU SOMETHING…

How does it feel to…

KNOW THAT YOU HAVE A GREAT

SCRIPT

a fantastic movie… and yet no one wants to fund it, screen it, or help you make it in the first place?

CONSTANTLY SEARCH FOR ANOTHER PRODUCER

because your last smooth-talking producer bailed on you for the fourth time?

BE IN THE EXACT PLACE YOU WERE LAST YEAR

even though you’ve won festival awards and had people say they loved your work?

My name is Curt…

and I was so frustrated that our indie community can feel so disconnected especially if you’re not one of the “lucky few” at the top. They get 100x the money… but they’re necessarily not 100x better. So why is there this gap?

Then I realized something… There’s a difference between being good at your craft, and actually getting results.

Look at these emails I get and tell me if you see yourself:

Emails like that are why I started to REALLY ask myself… what actually makes the difference between those that get results, and those that don’t? Is it talent? Is it connections? Is it good looks? It can’t be the latter or I’d be swimming in billions obviously.

…But there is something going on that’s almost more important the craft of filmmaking: I call it, the game of filmmaking.

And that’s what indiefilmTO is about.

This is why I created Toronto's first non-profit filmmaking incubator where we test out techniques, and then I give away our secrets for FREE when you join our email list.

When you join (again, we're a non-profit, so this is free), you’ll learn things like:

  • The 3 keys to getting your name out there, without “marketing”
  • Why loglines are the stupidest idea, and what to do instead
  • How to influence investors using the “Need To Pee” principle
  • How to grow your film like a startup, giving you control over an exponential audienceusing tactics from UBER and Dropbox.
  • Know the TWO emotional driving forces behind your psychology so you can squeeze 85% more out of your output as an artist
  • Have producers finally respond to your emails, while having investors email you to fund your feature.

We have a saying internally at indiefilmTO that we’re more passionate about the filmmaker than the film, and that’s why I read and respond to every message (yes, even though it’s 30+ emails per day).

You get our material for free via our email list as my way of saying congratulations for being a member and contributing to this community.

Let’s grow a NEW industry together.

“I LOVE that his emails strive to touch on the toughest side of this business: the HUSTLE.

He’s not just plugging gear or his own agenda. Curt’s giving tangible, real-world advice backed up by actual experience and seeking to create a dialogue which is huge. Nothing worse than these YouTube pundits who just spout so-called wisdom and never ask for your side of it.”

“Watching your video on the Continuous Deal Tactic made me feel confident in how I handle situations. The “take action now” idea is in my mind. I have writing to finish asap! Thanks for the motivation man. When the creative part is done I’ll be using your systems.”

“I heard the just what I needed to the hear…the truth! Which is always what I’m searching for.

As far as encouraging my crew to meet deadlines. Curt taught the technique of using a “name” of a friend to replace theirs and offering a slightly different situation, with similar stakes to put their own life into perspective, and then offering a solution for this similar situation.

Offering an outcome, so that the crew member can see themselves in their shoes. I think this is brilliant!”

Frequently asked questions

WILL YOU PRODUCE/FUND MY FILM?

No. We are not producers or a production house.

However, we do teach you how to get a great producer yourself or even better, how to get funding.

We do all of this through our newsletter.

You come to us with your idea, and how you plan on getting it done, and we show you HOW to do that within your budget.

You say you give away most of your material for free... Why is that?

I believe strongly that you should give more value than you take.

Actually, I believe that you should give CRAZY more value than you take.

When people are only thinking about what they can get…

I feel like that’s what’s wrong with this industry in the first place.

So I wanna be the opposite of that.

Honestly, I know that you’ll love the material and get results from it and you’ll likely go onto our premium material.

If you don’t love it, the unsubscribe button is right there and I encourage you to leave if you feel it’s not for you.

In fact, we pride ourselves in that our free material better than most other’s PAID material.

Bold claim.

I know.

See for yourself.

I hate marketing stuff and selling myself, it seems so sleazy. What can i do?

I hate it too.

And it sucks because most marketers suck and give the rest a bad name.

That’s why I don’t advise you “market” or “sell.”

Instead, all you should be thinking is “how can I add way more value than the next guy?”

You’re not a marketer.

You’re a VALUE ADDER.

The problem is, people sometimes don’t get your value or don’t see it.

I would love to help with that by showing you how to do it effectively and efficiently (saving time so you can actually spend it where you are passionate).
